Tabibi: 4 Important Health Tips for Working Mothers

Health Tips for Working Mothers

Motherhood is a wonderful blessing, but that doesn’t mean it is all smooth sailing. As a mother, you’re responsible for your children’s nutrition, care and health as well as your own.

If you are a working mother, your responsibilities add up quickly, and you may forget to pay attention to your own health. Tabibi offers some tips for finding the right balance and living a healthy life:

1. Eat Well

  • Breakfast: Start your day with breakfast. Breakfast is a major source of energy that your body needs to kick-start the day.
  • Balanced Diet: Your diet needs to be balanced. The balanced diet should contain vitamins, carbohydrates, proteins and other essential elements in a balanced quantity.
  • Drink enough water: Water is what your body needs in high quantities, so make it a habit to consume enough water (6-8 glasses) to keep you hydrated.
  • Avoid unhealthy food: Unhealthy junk and processed food is full of ingredients that can harm your health, so try to avoid them and replace them by snacking on nuts and fruits.
  • Set good habits: Developing good eating habits can go a long way in improving your self-esteem and that of your family.

2. Sleep Well:

Sleep helps you focus and concentrate, and improves memory and the cognitive functions of our nervous system. Sleeping less than 7–8 hours per night is linked to an increased risk of some diseases like heart diseases and pre-diabetes. By sleeping sufficient hours each night you will protect your body from an increased risk of developing other systemic diseases as well.

3. Regular Exercise:

Exercise has been proven to relieve stress, and to make you feel better – with more energy, a better mood, feeling more relaxed and sleeping better. Find at least 20-30 minutes in your day to move in some way and make it a priority. You will feel the benefits not only physically but mentally. Physical activity or exercise can improve your health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease.

  • Assists in weight management and may change levels of chemicals in your brain, such as serotonin, endorphins and stress hormones.
  • Increase in daily activity can come from small changes made throughout your day, such as walking or cycling instead of using the car, talking a walk around your block or in the track of the sports club.

4. Screening Test:

Regular visits to your family physician with screening tests related to your age group can help identify conditions that could at some future point turn into disease, thus enabling earlier intervention and management of diseases such as diabetes mellitus, high cholesterol or cancer.

Taking care of your kids and work is very important, but taking care of yourself is much more important. They need you and depend on you.
